R-TECH Materials has recently had designed and built a rig for the testing of headed anchors. Headed anchors are used in reinforced concrete construction, where traditional anchorage methods such as bob bars are inappropriate or inconvenient. These components are widely used in some parts of the world, although they have not been used extensively in the UK. Headed anchors have recently been incorporated into the Sellafield Engineering Standard ES_0_3110_1 for Mechanical Splices and Anchors to Reinforcement for Concrete. R-TECH Materials has been developing its test methods for these components, and can now perform all tests according to this standard for bars up to 40mm diameter.
